DEEPER WAY

Structural Integration is a bodywork modality that aims to help achieve balance, alignment and ease of use within the body.

Seeing the whole body as an integrated system, SI work attempts to identify and alleviate postural anomalies which may be contributing to chronic pain, reduced psychosomatic awareness or the holding of trauma patterns within the myofascia.

WHO IS STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION FOR?
Watermark Post_edited.png

If you have been struggling with persistent, chronic pain or functional restrictions within the body, Structural Integration may be able to identify the origin of some of these maladaptive patterns, and address them with a holistic, integrative approach.

The primary aims are to help you find balance, freedom and ease within the body, bringing you a deeper sense of “at home-ness” and comfort being who you are.

A STUDENT OF
ANATOMY TRAINS

Hi, I'm André Michel.

I have been a professional bodyworker for 16 years, and I am always seeking new ways to deepen my bodywork practice to help achieve greater change and healing for my clients.

This year, I have had the privilege of studying Structural Integration with some of the best teachers in the world - Anatomy Trains.

I have seen I have seen some remarkable transformations through this modality, and I am currently on my path to full accreditation with their school.

Over the next six months, I will be seeking new clients for a series of case studies as I gain experience with this practice and prepare for my final assessments.

"I recently had two sessions with Andre, and his touch is truly remarkable. His technique transcends the traditional massage experience. I highly recommend Andre to anyone visiting the Northern Rivers. In fact, I would even suggest that people fly in from interstate just to experience Andre's magical touch."

WHERE IS YOUR PAIN

REALLY COMING FROM?

Your fascia is one continuous, interconnected web of intelligent tissue that surrounds every cell in your body. Maladaptive compensation patterns can form beneath our conscious awareness, creating cross-body restrictions leading to postural imbalances, pain and somatosensory amnesia or disassociation.

Chains of myofascia (muscles and their fascial connections) traverse the body, forming integrated lines of function and force transmission. Restrictions anywhere along the chain can create dysfunction for the entire system.

Pain often manifests in areas left holding the brunt of these dysfunctional patterns, though the cause may stem from a myriad of places across the body. Who’d have thought that awfully persistent ache in your back could be the result of a collapsed arch in the foot, or a restricted diaphragm!

WHAT MAKES STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION DIFFERENT?

Structural Integration operates under precise principles to achieve support, release and balance within the body. Here, the intention is not about creating a comfortable and relaxing environment for the body to enjoy, but rather to challenge and change the fundamental patterns of holding within the fascia. This can sometimes be an uncomfortable or even confronting process. The body must be guided to find support and release in a way it has not been able to achieve on its own, often for years or decades.

SI work is both precise and concise. Techniques are performed deeply, slowly and with great care, with the sole purpose of creating change in the tissue. Sessions are punctuated by frequent postural assessments to gauge how the body is responding to the techniques. Two-way communication is a central component of engaging the client in the work and drawing them deeper into their own body.

Clients will be asked to perform simple movements whilst receiving techniques, which assists in releasing and easing fascial restrictions, develops proprioceptive awareness and keeps the client actively involved in their own healing process. This is a collaborative effort to free the body from tension and pain, not a performative act to be experienced passively.

ABOUT THE 3-SERIES

The Anatomy Trains 3-Series is a series of three Structural Integration sessions intended to identify and address major features of postural and functional imbalances in the lower body/hips, torso/shoulder girdle and spine/neck, respectively. It is intended as a detailed introduction to SI work, and a precursor to the much more thorough 12-Series, which attempts to find deeper systemic change across all 12 myofacial meridians.

For those who are curious about myofascial release work, the 3-Series is a powerful introduction to Structural Integration.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

  • Do I need to come with a partner?
Nope! If you're planning to come solo, you will get the chance to partner up with the other solo course participants. This will afford you the opportunity to work with many different body types, as well as receive from multiple people, giving you a broader understanding of how things should (or shouldn't!) feel.
  • Do I need any previous massage experience to do this course?
This course is designed to equip you with all the tools, techniques and philosophies you need in order to give incredible massages. It doesn't matter if this is your very first time giving a massage - you will learn everything you need to know from the ground up, the right way.
  • Is this course just for beginners?
Whilst this course addresses the fundamental principles and practices of intuitive massage, it is by no means limited to beginners. We limit group size in order to be able to deliver individual instruction to all our participants, so if you're an experienced or professional bodyworker already, you will get plenty of personal attention from me in order to take your practice to the next level.
  • Will I have to be naked?
Absolutely not. We will cover the art of draping each other with towels or sarongs in order to protect our partner's modesty, exposing only those parts of the body we are working on at the time. Our intention is to ensure you feel comfortable, safe and protected in the container of the course at all times. You will never be pressured to do anything you are not comfortable with, and have full control over whether you choose to participate in any of the activities or not.
  • What if I'm not comfortable with the partner I've been given?
We do our best to ensure you get the chance to work with as many people as possible in order to gain as much experience as you can over the two days. If, at any point, you are not comfortable with your partner for a particular activity, you will always have full permission to communicate your needs and request to change. We do our best to practice compassionate communication in the course and also to not take anything too personally should somebody request to change from working with you.
  • Will I be given a certificate at the end?
Yes! You will be offered a Certificate Of Completion for the Level 1 training. This certificate will enable you to participate in more advanced trainings in the future.
